How the Russia visa works

Russia's unified electronic visa is open to Indian passport holders and is processed in four calendar days with no invitation letter and no consular appointment. It allows a single entry with a stay of up to 16 days and is valid only at designated checkpoints, which include the main Moscow and St Petersburg airports. Anything longer than sixteen days, or any trip entering through a non-designated border, needs a consular visa supported by a tourist confirmation and voucher issued by a registered Russian tour operator.

Where Russia applications go wrong

Sixteen days is a hard cap

The e-Visa cannot be extended and cannot be converted. Itineraries longer than sixteen days must go the consular route from the start.

Designated entry points only

The e-Visa is valid at a published list of air, land and sea checkpoints. Arriving anywhere else means refused entry even with a valid visa.

Migration registration inside Russia

Visitors must be registered with the authorities within a set number of working days of arrival. Hotels do this automatically; travellers staying in private apartments must arrange it themselves and are fined at departure if they did not.
